The journey to bring this film to life has been a long one. Plans for a reboot began in 2010 with Guillermo del Toro attached as writer and producer, envisioning a heightened reality setting. However, after years in development, the project underwent changes, and in 2020, Katie Dippold joined as the new screenwriter. Justin Simien came on board as the director, and the stellar cast was assembled from July to October, including the exciting additions of Jamie Lee Curtis and Jared Leto.

Filming took place from October 2021 to February 2022 in New Orleans and Atlanta, with stunning visual effects handled by DNEG and Industrial Light & Magic. The film's score, composed by Kris Bowers, adds an extra layer of suspense and excitement to the haunting tale.
